Holidays….

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with the fresh fallen snow and the residents of Hillsboro House have been busy getting into the holiday spirit. On any given day you can find some kind of holiday preparations going on. If they are not busy singing favorite Christmas carols, or enjoying past time holiday movies, you can find them making ornaments or decorating cookies. Let’s not forget the best part, eating them!

The smell of gingerbread entices your nose as you enter the solarium coming from the Christmas tree. The residents handcrafted homemade gingerbread ornaments which made the final touches to our tree that they enjoyed decorating with the help of some of our middle school children. Rita’s favorite chair sits beside the tree and it brings back memories of when, “on 2 days of the year the kitchen belonged to her, Thanksgiving and Christmas.” Her friend Shirley sits close by and listens with a smile on her face. As Cliff nears his 100th Christmas, he speaks of times when he was a small boy and the aspects of gifts were simple and how the times have changed. The residents are looking forward to when two of our HDES first grade classes come in to perform a play for them later this week. They always enjoy seeing the little ones from our community stop by. Whether our residents are with us for long term care or rehabilitation we want them to feel at home and strive at making The Hillsboro house a caring home for the elderly.

With my wife’s family we have been in several nursing homes. We knew right away that Hillsboro House is different.
